Evie Priestley is craving more success in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup this term, having been a part of Burnley FC Women’s previous runs in the competition.
Jonathan Morgan’s side are vying for a spot in the Fourth Round where they would host Cardiff City Ladies, but must first overcome the test of Norwich City Women on Sunday (18th December).
Speaking to the Club’s media in the build-up to the game against the Canaries, Priestley discussed her previous experience in the competition, the test posed by Norwich and just how much she’s enjoying her football this season.
Priestley on the FA Cup…
“I’ve experienced a few good FA Cup runs with the Club in previous seasons, so I know exactly what it means to all involved to try and get as far as we can in the competition.
“The standouts in the competition personally, and I’m sure for most that have been involved, were when we came up against Manchester United and Liverpool in recent seasons.
“We want to go up against the best so we can test ourselves at the highest level, and the only way to do that is by progressing as far as possible, so we’ll be giving everything to get through against Norwich this weekend.”
Priestley on Norwich…
“I’ve seen they’re near the top of their league, so they’re obviously a good side and will provide a test for us.
“Whoever the opponent is, you never underestimate them, and we won’t be doing that this weekend.”
Priestley on being back amongst the goals last time out at Derby…
“There is no better feeling than scoring! I love scoring goals and it’s an even better feeling scoring the winner for the team with the last kick of the game like I did at Derby.
Claret Women host Ewe Rams in second home game of the week
“We’ve proven our resilience this year so far with a lot of late winners like that, and that can only be a good thing to have in our abilities.”
Priestley on a first home game in eight weeks…
“We all love playing at home, and it feels like we haven’t done so in ages, so it will be good to be back even if we are playing at a different venue!
“The supporters who come to our games getting behind us always gives us that extra lift, and we love being able to play in front of our home fans.
“It feels like more and more have been coming to our games this season, and that’s what we all want to see.”
Priestley on her own aims for the rest of the season…
“Like all strikers, I have a target in mind for the amount of goals I want to score but that’s not something I like to focus on.
“For me, the most important thing is that the team wins games consistently, and if we can do that – whether I’m on the scoresheet or not – we’ll be successful!
“We’re all enjoying working with the coaching staff, and we’re always up for learning. I don’t think there’s anyone in our squad that doesn’t want to keep improving.”
