Captain Ben Mee discusses Burnley’s 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Turf Moor, heading home the matchwinner and the importance of the Clarets fans to the team’s survival push as well as looking ahead to Crystal Palace.
Mee on his winning goal against Spurs:
"Just fantastic. The conditions were typical. The last few games here have been mental with the wind and the rain, but the fans have been fantastic. It was nice to get a winner.
"It was a great ball in, and I just saw the flight early. It’s difficult to defend in these conditions with the wind swirling and I just read it a little bit better than he [Spurs defender Cristian Romero] did. I managed to get above him and all I had to do was finish it. Luckily, I managed to stick it in.
"I’m getting a few goals now which is nice. I’m always trying to get more, it’s just nice [for me] to get a couple."
Mee on the celebrations at Turf Moor post-match:
"Brilliant again. The celebrations after the Brighton game were brilliant with the fans down there coming to support us and making a long trip.
"Tonight was another really special night. The last few games here have been bouncing, we’ve really enjoyed playing in front of the crowd and everyone’s been on it. You just get that sense, that feeling and we’re feeling good at the moment."
Mee on gaining momentum after two consecutive Premier League wins:
"Getting a bit of momentum and on a run of games, that’s when we’re at our best I think. We really struggled to get momentum with the stop-start, the postponements and everything going on before Christmas but we’re in a good bit of form now.
"We’ve got some momentum and the lads are buzzing. They’re all up for it. We have players to come back as well, everyone’s doing their job really well."
Mee on the importance of backing up the Brighton win:
"It was a big thing for us getting that win on Saturday and then coming here, delivering again tonight. A lot of teams get a big win and then don’t perform, so real credit to the lads for coming again tonight and performing again.
"It’s so important to get back-to-back wins, especially when you’re down there. Getting six points from two games drags everyone back in."
Mee on picking up a seventh clean sheet of the Premier League campaign:
"The clean sheets keep coming, it’s a credit to whole team. We’re all working really hard to get them. Goals are coming too so it’s a nice little mixture.
"There are some big games coming up, so it bodes well. Hopefully we can get this place [Turf Moor] rocking again."
Mee on keeping calm ahead of Saturday’s trip to Selhurst Park:
"I’ll be up for a long time tonight I think! We’re in [training] tomorrow morning though, so I think I’ll be a bit tired then, but we’ve got another big game Saturday."
