Burnley's return to Premier League action saw Scott Parker's side earn another valuable point and extend their unbeaten run in all competitions to three matches.

Florian Wirtz opened the scoring in the 42 minute at Anfield, after Dominik Szoboszlai had just smashed his penalty kick against the crossbar 10 minutes before.

The Clarets then grabbed their equaliser just after the hour mark, when Florentino played in Marcus Edwards to dart through into the area and fire home into the bottom corner.

Head Coach Scott Parker made two changes from the side that drew with Manchester United last time out in the Premier League.

Jaidon Anthony and Axel Tuanzebe, fresh from his AFCON action, both returned to the starting XI, with Hannibal and Josh Laurent making way.

There was an early scare for the Clarets, when Milos Kerkez broke into the area from the left and struck it across the face of goal for the oncoming Hugo Ekitike, only for Lucas Pires to beat the striker to it and make an excellent goal-line clearance, with a resulting Reds corner.

As the first-half reached the midway mark, there hadn’t been any real opportunities for either side, with Martin Dúbravka comfortably keeping out an Ekitike effort, before Szoboszlai curled an inswinging cross narrowly wide of the post.

Liverpool were then awarded an opportunity to take the lead, after winning a penalty with just under 15 minutes left on the clock of the first-half.

Cody Gakpo was adjudged to have been fouled inside the area by Florentino, but Szoboszlai stepped-up from 12-yards and fired the spot-kick straight onto the crossbar.

With half-time approaching and the encounter still goalless, Wirtz was next up to try and break the deadlock, but the German international’s curling strike was pushed wide by the hands of Dúbravka.

However, the Reds did get their breakthrough and so did Wirtz just before the break, after Jones teed the forward up just inside the box fire home the opener into the top corner and give the hosts a half-time lead.

The Clarets started the second-half brightly and carved open an early opportunity, as Anthony played the ball into the path of Edwards, but he could only guide his effort over the target from inside the area.

Dúbravka was then called into action a few minutes later, with the Burnley no.1 keeping out another Wirtz effort from close range with a smart stop.

Bashir Humphreys was then the last line of defence, as the Reds kept coming forward, but a terrific goal-line block from the defender ensured the score remained at 1-0 just before the hour mark.

Burnley then created a glorious chance to equalise in the 62nd minute, as Edwards broke down the right and looked to square the ball across the face of goal to an unmarked Anthony, only for a last-ditch Ibrahima Konate block to deny the forward an opportunity at sliding it home into the back of the net.

However, the visitors did get their equaliser just moments later, as Florentino slipped in a delightful through ball for Edwards and the wideman made no mistake from racing through into the box and firing home under the body of Alisson.
