Plenty of positives to be taken after 90 minutes of hard work in the final pre-season match of the season for Burnley after a one all draw at Spanish side Cadiz.
The game was played in the searing heat of Spain, around forty miles from Cadiz, at Estadio Antonio Gallardo and only about 50 miles away from the most Southern tip of the country.
A good number of Burnley fans had also made their way to the home of Arcos FC in Arcos de la Frontera.
The opening goal came from the first shot on target in the 20th minute for Cadiz, via a corner whipped in from the right by Ontiveros, headed in by Roger Marti at the near post.
Just before the half hour, Burnley almost found the equaliser after a mistake from the Cadiz goalkeeper.
Anass Zaroury almost took advantage. His cheeky, curling effort, from outside the box dropped just wide.
The second half started in some style.
In the 54th minute, Lyle Foster equalised with a cracker from the edge of the area.
Great link up play between Josh Brownhill and Luca Koleosho saw Burnley burst into the opposition box before the ball fell at the feet of Foster.
The South African striker found the top corner of the goal and the back of the net with laser-like precision, giving the goalkeeper no chance and delighting the travelling Burnley fans.
He almost added a second just minutes later, but was denied by the offside flag.
On the hour mark, Burnley started to make changes. Foster, Koleosho and Vitinho making way for Andreas Hountondji, Jay Rodriguez and Lucas Pires.
In the last ten minutes, Hountondji had a great effort after he dribbled past three players before sending an effort goalbound, only for Mousa Diakite to slide in and clear off the line.
Scott Parker made a couple more late changes with Han-Noah Massengo and Enock Agyei getting a run in place of Brownhill and Odobert.
The game would finish all square with both teams having provided a decent competitive game to end the pre-season.
Now our attention moves to next Monday’s trip to Luton Town, when we get down to the serious business in our opening Championship match at Kenilworth Road.
