Burnley’s Sky Bet Championship unbeaten run extended to 23 matches in sublime fashion on Saturday afternoon as goals from Lyle Foster, Josh Brownhill, Ashley Barnes and a Luton own goal saw the Clarets secure a well-deserved 4-0 victory.

The Clarets took the lead through Mark McGuiness’ own goal, before Foster added a second shortly after.

Brownhill slotted home his 12th of the campaign eight minutes into the second-half, with Barnes then smashing in from close range with the last kick of the game. This was Barnes' first goal for the Club after re-signing in January.

Head Coach Scott Parker made two changes from the side that beat Cardiff City on Tuesday night, as Hannibal and Zian Flemming made way for Josh Laurent and Lyle Foster.

After a quiet opening 10 minutes at a sunny and bright Turf Moor, the Clarets came close in the 13th minute when Jaidon Anthony’s teasing cross was punched away by Thomas Kaminski with Maxime Esteve lurking at the back-post unmarked.

The Hatters’ afternoon then took an early turn, after Kal Naismith was shown two yellow cards in quick succession for rash challenges, which saw the experienced defender sent off with not even 20 minutes played.

With the first half reaching the midway mark, Connor Roberts, fresh from signing a new two-year deal this week, set his sights on goal with a strike from outside the area that sailed just over.

Burnley’s increasing pressure then paid off, as Marcus Edwards slipped in Roberts down the right-hand side, with the Welshman fizzing the ball into the area, only for Town defender McGuinness to turn it into his own goal.

It took less than 10 minutes for the Clarets to grab a deserved second of the afternoon, as Anthony’s low cross into the box found Foster to smash home past Kaminski and double the hosts’ lead.

Although Parker’s side pushed for a third goal in a one-sided first-half, the home team went into the break two goals to the good.

The Clarets started the second-half where they left off and the first effort towards goal came from CJ Egan-Riley, but his shot flashed just wide of the post.

However, a few minutes later Burnley did grab a third and it was the skipper Brownhill who was on hand to turn home Edwards’ pass into the area and put the game out of reach for the Hatters.

Brownhill then came close to a second goal of the game moments later, when a cleared ball to the edge of the area fell to the midfielder, but his drilled effort bounced just wide.

That turned out to be the captain’s final action of the game, as Parker turned to his bench for the first time of the afternoon on the hour mark. Brownhill and Edwards made way for Manuel Benson and Jeremy Sarmiento.

Two further changes 10 minutes later for the Clarets then saw Barnes and Oliver Sonne introduced for Anthony and Lucas Pires.

Josh Laurent came very close to firing home a fourth, after striking over Sonne’s cut-back, before Barnes concluded the afternoon from a few yards out.

Deep into stoppage time, the striker was in the right place at the right time to latch onto Laurent’s pass into the box and find the roof of the net past Kaminski with the striker mobbed by his teammates in the celebration.

Burnley’s attention now turns to Tuesday night’s home clash with West Bromwich Albion.
