Defender Matt Lowton wants the Clarets to transfer their cup form to the league, ahead of this weekend’s trip to Leicester City.
Burnley are yet to secure maximum points in the Premier League this season but advanced through to the last 16 of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday with a 4-1 third round win over Rochdale.
Lowton came off the bench in the midweek success, and now wants the team to build momentum.
Sean Dyche’s side face Leicester City at the King Power on Saturday afternoon, hoping to get a first league win.
Lowton said: “It (the win against Rochdale) was really important. I don’t think we have been playing that badly to be honest, but it is a results industry.
“So it was nice to get the win, and do it in the manner we did. Hopefully we can take the positives from that game and take it into the Premier League.
“We have had some good spells in every game, but just let ourselves down in key moments. In this division you get punished.
“So we need to make sure we are ‘on it’ for the full game, and not let games get away from us.
“If we cut out those 10-15 minute lax spells, we’ll be ok. We need to stop that. It is just about seeing it through.”
As the right back says, any poor spells within games will be punished, as was the case in the last away game at Everton.
But that, he believes, is also the nature of today’s Premier League.
“I think the league is getting more difficult each year, it always does. The money being spent on players in the Premier League, and the quality they bring in.
“It gets more and more difficult every season. But we have the experience of having five or six seasons in the league, and have a core group who have been there and done it over the years.
“So we want to push on, get some points on the board soon, and hopefully have a bit of momentum.”
The start of two home games in four days for the Clarets
A week on from manager Dyche committing his future to the Clarets by signing a new four-year contract, Lowton says the news is good for everyone connected with the club.
He added: “Him (the manager) committing his future is massive. You can see the job he has done since he has come in. Not just on the pitch, but off the pitch.
“The lads he has bought in as well, he always seems to get that right. We have a great group and that is down to the manager.
“For him to commit another four years is great for the club, and we keep moving forward.”
