Burnley U18s finished their pre-season tour games schedule with a well-contested battle against Lech Poznan U18s.

The match was an opportunity for the majority of Tony Philliskirk’s players to push their limits in the sweltering heat on Saturday morning.

The starting XI was mostly made up of second-year scholars, while U21s centre-back Jesse Williams earned his first 45 minutes back after a considerable amount of time on the sidelines.

Philliskirk’s side had the better of the first half, with Oli Pimlott and Brandon Pouani linking up particularly well down the left-hand side.

Striker Braidin Derbyshire put the best chance of the half narrowly wide of a post and Poznan capitalised with a free-kick into the bottom left corner just before the break.

Two planned changes at the interval saw Anwar Murtesa replace Williams, while Luca Fong took Pimlott’s place at left-back.

There were further switches on the hour in the form of eight first-year scholars, but it was 2-0 shortly afterwards when Poznan converted from the penalty spot.

James Lewis halved the deficit with a placed finish into the bottom right corner and from there it felt like Burnley were the only team capable of scoring the game’s fourth goal.

Warren Taylor came closest to doing so when he curled the ball centimetres wide of the top left corner, but it ended 2-1 to the Polish champions’ youngsters.
