Kirstie Levell says she and her Burnley Women team-mates are ‘really excited’ to kick off their 2024/25 season against Hull City on Sunday afternoon.
The goalkeeper enjoyed a successful debut season in Claret, winning both the Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season awards.
Ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, she expressed her excitement and noted the positive effect that pre-season has had on the squad.
“I’m really excited,” she said.
“We’ve had a strong pre-season and have been able to take a lot of lessons from the various games.
“We topped it off by beating Women’s Super League side Everton, too, which will give us confidence going into our first game.”

Levell is part of a new-look squad ahead of Sunday’s league opener, with Head Coach Rebecca Sawiuk introducing 12 new players in the off season.
“We’ve all merged quite well,” Levell continued.
“The new girls have bought lots of experience from different leagues and it’s good to have different faces in the building.
“They’ve all been nothing but a great addition to our squad.”
One of the new faces in the women’s team squad is fellow goalkeeper Naoisha McAloon, who joined following the expiry of her contract with Championship outfit Durham.
The ‘goalkeeper’s union’ is a well-known term in football and stretches to Lancashire, with Levell explaining how her counterpart has settled in.
“She (McAloon) is a great character!” Levell said.
“Neesh and I can push each other this season and I know we’ve got each other’s backs – long may that continue!”

Hull City are new opponents for the Clarets this season, having earned promotion from the FAWNL Division One North.
That certainly doesn’t mean that Sawiuk and her players will be taking them lightly, though – with Levell keen to stress the importance of starting the season well.
“We’ll be ready when the game comes around,” she said.
“If we get a win there’s no reason why we can’t gain a lot of confidence from that and continue to perform at a high level.
“It will be brilliant to see our fans again too. Having them there this season will help us massively and we need that ‘extra player’, which give us a big boost.
“We’ll look to be aggressive and put on an entertaining performance for everybody watching.”
Sunday’s match will be played at the Daisy Communications Arena, the home of Nelson FC (BB9 7BN). Kick-off is 2pm.
Tickets will be available to purchase at the turnstiles with cash or card and are priced at £5 for adults and £2 for under-18s.
Alternatively, supporters can watch the match live on Burnley’s official YouTube channel or Clarets+ free of charge.
The stream will start 15 minutes before kick-off.
