Maxime Estève says he is ‘proud’ to be a Burnley player as the defender prepares to play his first Sky Bet Championship game at Turf Moor.
The centre-back moved to the Clarets from French club Montpellier in January and has continued to settle in well to his new surroundings.
Speaking ahead of the Clarets’ game against Cardiff on Saturday, he was full of praise for everyone connected with the Club.
“I played my whole life at Montpellier, more than ten years. New country, new club, new principles, everything is new for me! I am very happy to be here.
“I never spoke English before I came here. The other French players in the dressing room have been good for my adaptation, with Wilson (Odobert), with Zeki (Amdouni), Manuel Benson, (Mike) Tresor.
“I repeat again, I’m very happy and this club is very special.”
The centre-back was also more than complimentary when speaking about the fans, who packed a sold-out Kenilworth Road away end against Luton on Monday.
“The fans have helped me a lot. I think they like me, and especially my nickname ‘Steve’. At Luton they were unbelievable, it’s crazy! I was not ready for it.
“I hope the result this Saturday will be great for everyone, because we need the fans if we want to get promoted.”
Things at the Club look different since the 22-year-old signed at the beginning of the year, but how does he assess the mood of the camp following the opening day victory?
“It’s a very good result in our first official game with the new coach (Scott Parker), new players and new staff and its important for the confidence of the players. Everyone is very happy”
“We want to give a new energy and new positivity, and with the new coach we have that”
The squad have been full of praise for Parker so far, but what does Estève think of his new boss?
“He’s very close to the players, he speaks to everyone in the same fashion. It’s not easy because we have 30-35 (players) I think. But, I tell you, he speaks with everyone and everyone is important. It is great for our confidence.”
“There is a good mindset in the dressing room”
There is however, one gripe that the defender has with Burnley, as the British summer comes to a close. Estève laughed: “(The weather) is not the best, it is the worst thing here!
“In April there is the rain, and August the rain, it is not easy! But no I joke with you. I am very happy (at the Club), and if you’re happy, it’s much easier.”
