Midfielder keen to fight back at Turf Moor

Josh Laurent said the Clarets need to keep a 'strong mentality and strong heart' as the squad prepare to welcome Crystal Palace to Lancashire for Premier League action midweek.

Reflecting on what he said was a disappointing result at Brentford last weekend, the midfielder explains that the team have been knuckling down to try and make things right against the Eagles.

“It was disappointing against Brentford. I thought the boys did well the first half, really well, and then we collapse late on," said the 30-year-old.

“We concede a goal, and I thought we did quite well to fight back and get back into the game. Then there’s not long to go so disappointing to concede two goals. We should at least walk out of there with a point; that’s something we’ve got to learn from for the remaining games.

“It’s disappointing but we’ve got to keep learning, stick together, and keep going.

“No one’s happy with losing. We’re all knuckling down and trying to make things right. It’s been a lot of talking between us, reflecting, and trying to improve. Keeping the energy high in training and being ready for the next one. We have to keep a strong mentality and strong heart.

“It’s up to us on the pitch to learn, to start getting these things right and to start getting over the line.

“The coaching staff and the manager have done really well in setting up a base for us and giving us the best information, it’s up to us now on the pitch to get ourselves over the line. We’ve come up short a couple of times, just those small, little moments. Hopefully, we can have more days like Wolves away.”

With Crystal Palace the visitors at Turf Moor this evening, Laurent and the team haven't had to wait long for the opportunity to get back on the pitch in the league.

“You learn from it, you review the game, but you can’t be too down, you can’t be too negative, you’ve got to keep the energy high and go into the game believing we can win. This is another challenge, and we’ve got to be ready to tackle it head on.

“They’re a very good team. They won the FA Cup last season; a well-structured team and they can be very good going forward as well. We’ve got to match that, nullify them, and create our own threats and our own problems.

“We need to keep on with our base like we have been, get ourselves over the line and nick those moments. We’ve got to look forward to the challenge and tackle it head on.”
