Daniel Munoz scored the only goal of the game, as Burnley suffered a 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on Wednesday evening.

Munoz headed home in the 43rd minute, on a night when Scott Parker's side competed well, in particular in a one-sided second half, but were unable to draw level, with substitute Jacob Bruun Larsen's strike coming back off the bar.

Head Coach Parker made two changes from the defeat to Brentford, with Jaidon Anthony returning to the starting XI for Hannibal, and Hjalmar Ekdal coming in for the injured Axel Tuanzebe.

After a quiet opening five minutes, there was an early warning sign for the Palace defence, as Maxime Esteve headed over the crossbar from an unmarked position at the back-post.

The Clarets were easing their way into the clash and forced a first corner of the game on the quarter hour mark, when Florentino teed up Anthony just inside the box to curl an effort towards the far post - but Dean Henderson was equal to it, producing a fine one-handed stop.

Palace carved open an opportunity of their own midway through the half, with a well-worked move resulting in Jean-Phillipe Mateta sliding a lovely through ball into the path of Yeremy Pino, but the forward’s attempt to pick out Daichi Kamada at the far post was intercepted well by Esteve.

In truth, there wasn’t much to separate the two sides with half-time approaching - but Palace struck first, two minutes before the break.

Marc Guehi whipped in a dangerous cross towards the back-post, and Munoz headed home into the bottom corner to give the visitors the lead at the break.

With the Clarets trailing at half-time, Parker turned to his bench and introduced Bruun Larsen, with Loum Tchaouna making way.

However, with 55 minutes played, it was the visitors who nearly struck again, as Munoz turned provider and teed up Mateta, but the striker’s effort was well saved by Martin Dubravka.

Parker then looked to shake things up once again with the hour mark approaching, as Marcus Edwards and Hannibal replaced Anthony and Flemming.

Those changes seemed to ignite a spark in the Clarets attack, with Hannibal and Edwards both linking up and looking to try and weave their way into the area, before Foster’s strike won Burnley a corner, with the momentum well within the wings of the home side.

From that corner, the Clarets then struck the woodwork, as Hannibal’s cross into the area found Bruun Larsen, but his fierce strike from a narrow angle was tipped onto the crossbar by Henderson.

Edwards then carved open another half-chance, when his dinked ball over the Palace defence was latched onto by Foster, but the forward could only steer his effort high and wide.

Substitute Armando Broja went close late on, seeing his header cleared off the line, as Burnley - despite an improved second half showing - fell to a 1-0 defeat.
