Speaking to Burnleyfootballclub.com ahead of Wednesday night's visit to Hull City, Josh Laurent was quick to applaud the support that the team have received in recent weeks and highlighted the 'real connection' between the squad and the fans. Scott Parker's side take on the Tigers at the MKM Stadium, following a trip to Sheffield Wednesday on the weekend, which saw over 3,000 Clarets in attendance and the midfielder is looking forward to being backed by big numbers once again in Yorkshire on an evening midweek game.
The 29-year-old is hoping the team can repay the loyal support once again this week with a win: “It's massive. The fans really seem to have a real connection with us. When you put in 100% for this team, for the club, they sense that and they really react and love it and get behind you.
“They've been massive for us this season, and I mean you could see after games when we win, how delighted they are and how behind us they are with us and push us over the line in the game as well.
“It's a great effort on a Wednesday night to sell out another away end, it’s fantastic support. Hopefully we can repay them again with three points.”
Laurent started in the Clarets' 2-0 win at Hillsborough on Saturday and the former Stoke City man was delighted to come home with another three points and ensure the unbeaten run was extended to seven.
“The weekend was very good. Obviously, three points and a brilliant performance from the boys. The result and performance was exactly what we wanted. There are still things that we want to improve on and as the Gaffer says, keep nudging along.
“So, that's what we look to do on Wednesday night, keep nudging along, get even better and try get another three points.”
Saturday's win also saw a fourth consecutive clean sheet secured and the midfielder insists that the whole squad deserve a 'pat on the back' for the collective effort.
“Of course (it’s a team effort). Obviously, they've (defenders) got a big responsibility to keep it out and defend. But, yes, that's all of us. The whole team defend and attack together.
"So, I can say everyone got a bit of a pat on the back for everyone but, you know, we have to keep going and aim to go as long as possible without conceding and keep the little run going.”
The Clarets face a Hull side who have won three of their last five league games on Wednesday and Laurent is anticipating another challenging evening in Yorkshire.
"Hull is probably a little bit of a similar challenge to the weekend, as in it might be a bit of an open game. But we will go there with a game plan and the Gaffer will have a game place which he will put to us, and we have got to execute it as best as we can.
“We'll play our way, every game in this league's tough and we just got to be up for it as a group.”
