Clarets boss reflects on defeat at Anfield

Boss Vincent Kompany says his side must take the positives from Saturday's battling performance at Anfield into the coming weeks after the Clarets suffered defeat on Merseyside.

Liverpool took the lead through Diogo Jota's header before Dara O'Shea pulled the scores level on the stroke of half-time. Luis Diaz put the hosts back in front and there were a handful of chances for Kompany's side to draw level once again in the second half, before Darwin Nunez added a third for the Premier League leaders.

Speaking post-match, Kompany was pleased with the 'moments' his team showed in front of a record-league attendance crowd at Anfield and believes the results will come for his side.

"I don't think we can throw away too much from this game. We have to take this game and there have been so many others (games) where we have showed what we can do.

"There's enough in our performances that can get us results and we aren't debating the performances, it's more just the moments and putting them together.

"This game has to give us the belief to carry on and there needs to be full belief to pick ourselves up and go again. We can't feel sorry for ourselves, if we perform, we can get the results.

"I see the work we put in on the training ground and in many occasions we have come so close. I'm fully aware of the realities, where we are in the table and how many games we have, but we cannot feel sorry for ourselves, we need to use this game to our advantage."

Kompany added: "The teams at this level will punish you and we saw that today. We created some opportunities and had some chances, but it's always a tough place to come.

"It's (Liverpool) a team with a lot of quality and this (Anfield) place is a place of history with a big crowd but the team have to be ready to go again and have the belief.

"If I keep seeing these moments of the performances, I have to believe that we are going to get results and so do the team."
