Kompany on the game:
“A win and no injuries [are the most important things]. The lads always give it a good go and if I have to summarise this game in a simple way, I’d say the first half was really good.
“In the second half, we lost a little bit of our discipline, and they gave us a game.”
Kompany on Samuel Bastien’s first appearance for the Clarets:
“I know the player and I think he gives us lots of energy as well as options in terms of where we want to play him.
“Especially with 46 games coming up in the league, we’ve got to make sure we’ve got enough players who can play in different positions and give legs to the team."
Kompany on goals from academy graduates Ne-Jai Tucker & Bobby Thomas:
“They’ve been two players who have really made a little bit of a name for themselves during pre-season.
“I like these types of moments in pre-season where you get to  bring in a few players that you didn’t expect would be there for the season. Bobby’s done really well, and Ne-Jai has as well, but that’s been since day one.”

Kompany on having a mix of youth and experience:
“It’s crucial. I think everyone knows that for the Club to stay healthy, we need to have enough young players that grow within this Club.
“We also need the experienced players as well, not just for what they give us on the pitch but for what they give us off the pitch. They’re the DNA of the Club. The mix is there, but we’re still adding to it.
“Ian [Maatsen]’s all energy. He’s someone that will go up and down for 90 minutes and he’ll add to the attacking threat of the team, he’ll keep us on the front foot.
“We need bodies in the team, and he helps us with making sure we’ve got competition in every position.”
Kompany on his first four weeks in charge:
“It’s been intense because as much as the lads are doing really well in training – and they’ve given me everything they’ve got – you’re also integrating a lot of new players.
“That’ll probably keep happening for the remainder of the transfer window, and that’s really the hard part. You’ve got the guys who have been here since day one, and the guys who literally arrived yesterday, and you’ve got to combine the two."
Kompany on playing in front of Burnley fans for the first time at Shrewsbury:
“It’s been brilliant. I feel right at home straight away and being back in English Football [with these supporters] is good for me.”
Kompany on the six-day long Portuguese training camp:
“The training camp as a player is always the tough part [of pre-season], but it’s something we need.
“We’re [going to be] in a place where we can really focus on football and on getting the details in that will be crucial for the first games of the season. It’s a good time for us to have it.”
