Goals from summer signing Samuel Bastien and Academy youngsters Ne-Jai Tucker & Bobby Thomas gave Burnley their second win of pre-season at Shrewsbury Town on Friday evening.
Bastien opened the scoring for the Clarets in the first-half, before Town's Jordan Shipley curled home an equaliser early in the second-half, but Tucker's strike on the hour-mark and Thomas' late goal proved to be the difference in Shrewsbury.
Summer recruits CJ Egan-Riley, Josh Cullen and Bastien all started at the Montgomery Meadow Stadium, with Luke McNally introduced for the second half. Meanwhile, Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Scott Twine missed out through injury, with Ian Maatsen not involved after just signing on Friday afternoon.
First-Half:
The Clarets started on the front foot, enjoying plenty of possession and nearly carved open an early goal, after Bastien won the ball back and picked out Jay Rodriguez, who fired just wide of the post with seven minutes on the clock.
A couple of minutes later, the hosts tested Bailey Peacock-Farrell in the Burnley goal, as forward Julien Dacosta’s effort sailed just over the bar, in front of the travelling Clarets faithful.
But just past the halfway mark of the first half, the visitors gained the lead through Bastien’s low finish, after Brownhill slipped a through-ball into the path of the midfielder, who coolly slotted home past Marko Marosi in the Shrews goal.
And just moments later, Burnley found the back of the net once again as Barnes fired home, but the referee had blown seconds before, for a foul in the build-up.
Kompany’s men headed into the break with the advantage, before a triple substitution saw Will Norris, Luke McNally and Ne-Jai Tucker replace Peacock-Farrell, Bastien and Roberts.
Second-Half:
However, in the first minute of the second period, Town equalised through Shipley’s long-range effort, which curled round Norris and into the back of the net.
The lively Cullen then forced Marosi into a low save, as the away side searched to regain the lead, as the sun began to set in the Shropshire distance.
And regain the lead is just what the Clarets did on the hour mark, as Brownhill’s perfectly timed ball into the area, was met by academy youngster Tucker at the back-post to turn home.
Two more Burnley youngsters were then introduced with 25 minutes to play, as Rodriguez and Cullen departed for Dara Costelloe and Mark Helm.
And Costelloe was straight in on the action, latching onto a Barnes through ball, before seeing his effort blocked inside the area by a Town defender.
The final batch of changes on the night were made with 10 minutes left, as Matt Lowton, Lewis Richardson and Owen Dodgson came on for Egan-Riley, Taylor and Barnes.
And with 85 minutes played, Thomas turned home Brownhill's ball, as the midfielder grabbed his third assist of the match.
Kompany's side finished the game as winners and completed another successful run out in pre-season, before his side travel to Portugal on Sunday for a week-long training camp in Lisbon.
