Manager Vincent Kompany believes this afternoon's defeat at Bramall Lane against Sheffield United will give his side fuel and can use the first loss since 13th August as a learning curve.
Burnley lead through Manuel Benson's opener, before Iliman Ndiaye equalised in between Benson adding a second just before the break.
But second half goals from Jack Robinson, Anel Ahmedhodžić and an Oli McBurnie brace secured the win for Paul Heckingbottom's men.
Post-match Kompany discussed the performance, using it as a learning curve and moving onto next week.
Kompany on the match:
"It hurts but we will get energy and fuel from this defeat, I don't think we needed a reality check, because I want us to stay humble and away from the hype and I think we do that.
"Today has happened to us and I like to see these moments as defining and these moments can fuel you and make you wake up early and get up late and work hard the next day.
"In our case, I couldn't ask more from my players, I think if anything we asked a little bit too much of them to be honest.
"I could sense it and my wish was for them to with the same energy as in previous games, but the succession of games, we have come to the end of a very difficult period and in the second half we collapsed."
Kompany on using the defeat as a learning curve:
"I just felt today that we went a little bit too deep, we were hanging on physically towards the end.
"I want to make sure the players know, that sometimes this can happen to you in a game and we have to find a way to get results.
"That is not an excuse, but we can use it as a lesson and take what we can from it and move forward to next week."
Kompany on Benson's performance:
"I think our performance was one of two halves, we had a very good first half and he was outstanding and we had a difficult second half and so did he.
"We looked dangerous every time we went forward in the first half and he was part of that."
Kompany on moving on:
"We have to move forward now, today has happened and we move onto next week.
"We'll have a de-brief on Monday, look at what went wrong and work on improving.
"Crawley first on Tuesday is our focus in the cup, rest and recovery is key and then we will see where we are at."
