Manager Vincent Kompany believes Wednesday night's Carabao Cup Round of 16 tie with Manchester United will be a good marker to measure where his side are at this season.
Burnley take on Erik Ten Hag's men at Old Trafford, who will be returning to action for their first competitive game since November 13th following the World Cup break.
And Kompany is looking forward to seeing how his side fare coming up against the five-time winners of the competition, backed by over 7,000 Clarets on the night.
“Firstly, I’m not at Manchester City anymore I’m at Burnley and this is a north-west derby.
“I think for us it gives us the chance to measure ourselves against some of the best and see how close we are.
“I really believe in making the next game the most important game, this game to me doesn’t really where a badge or a label like that.
“It’s a game we want to perform in and improve in and measure where we’re at, so we’ll treat it like all the other games.
“That in itself is more exciting for me, more than the fact we’re going to Old Trafford, it will be a test and we look forward to it.” Said the Clarets chief.
Kompany, who has played at Old Trafford 10 times for Manchester City, admits he will be expecting a frosty reception on his return but insists the full focus is on the team and their performance.
“I’ve been on the pitch a lot of times as a player, but I’ve never gone there with Burnley.
“For me it’s going to be about discovering how close or how far we are, everything else around it will be what it is.
“I’d be slightly offended if I didn’t get a bit of stick when I get there, but ultimately it’s going to be about the team’s performance rather than me.”
The Clarets will have a strong following in Manchester with another sell-out away end and Kompany knows how much they can help the team.
"They will be there again in their numbers on Wednesday, as they have been all season and hopefully we can make it a night to remember for them.
"We don't ever take them for granted and we will need them again to be loud and proud supporting the lads throughout the game."
