Luca Koleosho described Saturday afternoon's five star win as surreal, as he talked his delight at being back playing for the Clarets in the second game of the 2024/25 campaign.
“It’s kind of surreal being back here for the new season and to be able to play in front of the fans and give them this type of performance, it’s just amazing.”
In the Lancashire sunshine, the Clarets went into the break two to the good after an own goal from Cardiff keeper Ethan Horvath and Koleosho made it two when Jay Rodriguez’s cut-back fell kindly for the 19-year-old, who rifled the ball into the back of the net. A second half with goals from Josh Brownhill, Zeki Amdouni and Jóhann Berg Gudmundsson resulted in the three points being collected in style.
Reflecting on the first half in relation the second half, what difference did Koleosho see?
“I think in terms of just learning from our mistakes, even though we were up two nil, there was stuff to kind of build off of. I feel like we did a good job of that, and we were able to score more in the second half, so I think it’s a good performance overall.”
And his first goal of the campaign, how did that feel?
“It’s nice to score in front of the fans again. I was out for a really long time; I hadn’t played a game since December! So just to have the atmosphere, it hasn’t changed, and to score it’s a surreal feeling.”
An injury to his knee in a game against Wolves back in December 2023 saw Koleosho sidelined for seven months. Speaking in pre-season he spoke of his excitement at being back on the pitch. So, just how happy is he to be back doing what he loves?
“I’m just really happy to be able to play. I missed a lot of time and just to know that I’m able to play again in front of the fans, with my teammates and just enjoy playing, it’s amazing.”
The Clarets have made an impressive start to the new season, two convincing wins and nine goals scored. With town and team showing togetherness just how important is this positive start going to be moving forward?
“It’s definitely really important because it gives everyone confidence, it boosts the morale. So as long as we’re able to continue to win and feed off that energy, I think it’ll be a great season.”
