Mike Jackson speaks after a narrow defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and takes positives from the performance.
Jackson on the penalty decision:
“I don’t think it’s a penalty. I’ve watched it back, but you can’t just watch it as an isolated incident on its own, you’ve got to watch what’s gone on before it. How you can get out of the way of it, I don’t know.”
Jackson on the team’s performance:
“I’d rather talk about the performance that we’ve given. We’ve had a few injuries and I thought that the way the team went about it today against a strong Spurs side was terrific.
“I’m really proud of how they’ve gone about it, they’ve shown a lot of character. We came here with a game plan of what we thought that we needed to do, and I thought that we could’ve executed that perfectly but for a decision.
“We’ve hit the post and Maxwel [Cornet]’s gone through with a good chance as well, so we have created those moments. We have to go again.”
Jackson on spirit within the camp:
“That’s going to be the biggest thing for us now, it’s always been there. You could see that today; the group just went at it. If we keep that spirit, then it gives us a real fighting chance.
“Staying in the Premier League is what we want to do, and we’ll do everything that we possibly can to do that. We’ just have to keep fighting. The fans were terrific today, they have travelled down here for a lunchtime kick-off on a Sunday and really got behind the team. We are going to need them more than ever in these next to games and we appreciate their support, as always.”
Jackson on Nick Pope:
“Nick has been brilliant. He has not made saves like he has today a couple of times, he has done that on a regular basis and his performances levels continue to improve.
“I see the amount of work he puts in with the other goalkeepers and our goalkeeping coach. He is a top goalkeeper and one of the best around.”
