Mike Jackson was delighted with his Burnley side after goals from Connor Roberts and Nathan Collins earned a 2-0 victory over Southampton at Turf Moor on Wednesday.
Roberts’ excellent 11th minute strike was added to by Collins’ header from a corner minutes before half-time to secure three points.
And Jackson spoke about a range of match topics following the full-time whistle.
Jackson on the result and performance:
“I think it speaks for itself by watching it, I think they just remembered what they were. We’ve not done loads of stuff differently, they’ve just come together, remembered who they are, an experienced group so I’m really delighted.
“Everyone has come together and it’s a great result and we’re really pleased.
“It was good to watch and towards the end of the game they had a couple of little chances, Popey has made an unbelievable save as well, but I’ve said to them that they have to enjoy the game when they win.”
Jackson on being in charge:
“You’re just totally focused on the game, what might happen next and what you might have to do, so your total focus is on that you’re not really thinking of anything else, sometimes you can’t enjoy it while you’re in it, only when it finishes, but your concentration and focus takes over.”
“I’m just here to prepare the group, I’m working with a great bunch of staff, a great bunch of lads and we’ll go into the next game having enjoyed tonight, but we know we have to take this into Sunday.”
Jackson on building on win:
“I’ve seen in the last few days how they’ve been and how much it’s meant to them, we keep seeing that spirit and they’ve gone and delivered it, we’re just here to help them.
“For us, we have to make sure in that Wolves game, we go and deliver, keep the same spirit and same togetherness, and take it into the next game.”
Jackson on the Clarets fans:
“They were terrific, and they really got going, and you could see it with the players, they were terrific. We said to the players to bring them with you at the start of the game, and we just built on that.”
