Nathan Tella was on target again on Wednesday night in the Clarets 3-1 win over Hull City. Topping his tally to 19 goals scored in all competitions so far, he was full of praise for his teammates come the full-time whistle.
“Yes, it was a really good night. As a team we were a bit disappointed that we conceded a goal at the end but overall, I think we can all be happy with what we did today and now just going into the game on Saturday, it’s given us a lot of confidence."
It was another match winning ball for Tella, to go alongside the ball he took home from his hat-trick against Preston North End in February.
“I still keep kicking the first one round, I’ve not put it on the shelf yet! No but it’s credit to the boys who help me adjust really well and they’ve given me the belief that I can score goals.
Claret on shortlist for monthly PFA award
“Today the passing that we played, the runs that we all made. I think the cross from Ian, was a brilliant cross and I just knew that when you’ve got someone with such quality who can put a ball in that area, I’ve just got to make sure I get in between the post and thankfully I did and I was able to score and celebrate in front of the away fans.
As an attacker you just want to be involved in goals and assists and thankfully, I’ve been scoring quite a few but whether it’s me or whether its someone else, I think we’re always getting opportunities to get 1v1 with defenders. That’s our strength, whether it's me or Anass, or Vitinho, who are able to get into 1v1 situations and thankfully we’ve got the team who allow us to get into those situations, so I’m really happy to be a part of it.”
The win sees the Clarets extend their unbeaten run to 17 games and while pleased with the statistic, Tella says the squad's goals are far from achieved.
“We do obviously but it doesn’t really mean anything, we’re not promoted, we’ve not won anything so it’s all just approaching it game by game, performance by performance and just trying to be the best we can be, playing the right way, try to put teams to the sword and keep doing what we’ve been doing. Yes, it’s nice to be 17 unbeaten but we know that we’ve got to do more.”
The away side's last game before the international break comes in the form of a FA Cup Quarter Final against Manchester City.
“Yes [I’m feeling good]. I think as a team these are the games you want to play, the Quarter Finals, one game away from Wembley. You know that we’re going to give it our all and leave it all on the pitch. I feel like it’s a good way to go into the international break and give us a chance to go to Wembley and play arguably the best team in the world. We’ll get confidence from here, we’ve got nothing to lose and it should be a good game.”
