Founded originally in 1912 as ‘Swansea Town’, the South Wales outfit entered into the Southern League initially, winning the Welsh Cup in their inaugural season.
The Swans joined the Football League in 1920 and went on to win the Third Division in 1925 before becoming ‘Swansea City’ in 1969 when the area of Swansea became a city.
Winning three promotions in four seasons, Swansea reached the First Division in in 1981 and came close to winning the league title but ended up finish 6th.
Three relegations between 1983 and 1986 saw City back in Division Four and in 2003 narrowly avoided relegation from the Football League.
The climb back up the ladder then came as the Swans achieved three promotions in seven seasons, which saw City reach the Premier League going all the way from League Two.
After achieving promotion back to the top-flight under the guidance of Brendan Rodgers, Michael Laudrup then took charge and managed City to lifting the League Cup in 2013 which saw Swansea qualify for the UEFA Europa League.
Following seven seasons in the Premier League, relegation came in 2018 with the Welsh side staying in second tier since although came close to promotion in 2021 in the play-offs but lost to Brentford in the final.

Nathan Dyer –
After rising through the academy ranks at Southampton and going onto breaking into the first team, Dyer joined the Clarets on loan in 2005. The winger only spent a brief time at Turf Moor but impressed during his spell which saw Dyer score twice in five matches before the Saints recalled the forward. The wideman eventually left St Mary’s in the summer of 2009 to sign for Swansea where he instantly became a fan favourite in Wales. After helping the Swans achieve promotion to the top-flight in 2011 and lifting the League Cup in 2013, Dyer played over 300 times for City across an 11-year spell, with a memorable season-long loan spell at Leicester City in between, which saw the winger win the Premier League, before departing in 2020.
David Edgar –
Edgar arrived at Turf Moor in the summer of 2009 from Newcastle United and made his debut in the League Cup against Hartlepool. The defender was unable to cement a place in the starting XI in his first campaign which saw Edgar join Swansea on loan until the end of the season in March 2010. The centre-back made five appearances for City during his brief spell in Wales with one goal which came in a 3-0 victory over Scunthorpe United. Edgar returned to Burnley for the 2010/11 campaign, but only featured seven times before then becoming a regular the following year. The Canadian went on to play over 80 times across the next three seasons for the Clarets before leaving in the summer of 2014.
Brad Maylett -
Born in Manchester, Maylett joined Burnley as a youngster in 1998 and went on to feature 45 times during a four-year spell at Turf Moor. In the second half of the 2002/03 campaign, the winger joined Swansea on loan from the Clarets until the end of the season. After a successful league spell in South Wales, the midfielder signed for City permanently in June 2003. Maylett spent a further two years with the Swans before leaving in 2005 to join Boston United.
