Founded in 1912 as ‘Swansea Town’, the South Wales outfit entered into the Southern League initially, winning the Welsh Cup in their inaugural season.
Joining the Football League in 1920 and then spending a period between the Third & Fourth Divisions, the Jacks eventually became ‘Swansea City’ in 1969 when – as it says on the tin – the area of Swansea became a city.
Winning three promotions in four seasons, the Swans reached the First Division in 1981 and came close to winning the league title, though ended up 6th after a remarkably poor end to the season.
Slipping back down the pyramid, they ended up in the Fourth Division come 1986 and in 2003, only narrowly avoided a relegation out of the Football League altogether.
Then came the climb back up the ladder, going all the way from League Two to the Premier League for the first time.
Brendan Rodgers masterminded a Championship Play-Off final win in 2011, while under Michael Laudrup the Swans won the League Cup in 2013 and played in the UEFA Europa League.
Relegation came in 2017/2018, with the Welsh side a second-tier club since. The closest they have come to a promotion was in 2020/21, when they lost the Play-Off final to Brentford.

Notable Connections: Welsh full back Connor Roberts became a Claret in the summer of 2021, joining from hometown club Swansea.
The 26-year-old joined the Swans academy at the age of nine, winning the U21 Professional Development League 2 title in 2014/15.
With loans in between at Yeovil Town, Bristol Rovers and Middlesbrough, Roberts made 152 appearances for City. In his first season as a Claret, he went on to make 22 appearances, scoring once.
Midfielder Jack Cork meanwhile also joined Burnley permanently in 2017 from the South Wales outfit. He had spent three seasons with Swansea, scoring twice in 83 appearances. Playing 160 times since in the five campaigns so far as a Claret, Cork has netted seven times.
Former players to have featured for both include Keith Lowe, Lenny Johnrose, and Leighton James.
Last Time We Met: The pair last faced off during the 2017/18 Premier League season, which saw Swansea relegated and the Clarets qualify for Europe.
Burnley had won the reverse fixture 2-0 at Turf Moor, but most recently, it was the Welsh club who enjoyed a 1-0 success on their own patch.
Ki Sung-Yueng’s 81st minute goal was enough for the Swans to seal three points back in February 2018 with ex-Clarets loanee Nathan Dyer in their side that day.
