Millie Ravening & Sarah Greenhalgh were both delighted with their three-goal hauls in Wednesday night’s resounding 9-0 win in the final of the Lancashire FA Women’s Senior Cup.
The pair struck five goals between them in the first half as midfielder Ravening brought up 30 goals for the season with her treble, and Greenhalgh – who also scored in the league win at Stoke City on Easter Sunday – completed her own hat-midway through the second 45.
Both have now lifted County Cups in consecutive seasons with the Claret Women, and were ecstatic to have added silverware to their collection.
Striker Greenhalgh, who used to play for beaten finalists Darwen FC Ladies, said: “To be honest with you, this competition is something we all really look forward to playing in.
“I think they [Darwen] gave us a good game to be honest with you, particularly in the first half. We had to work around it, but I think our passing patterns came out and it was really effective in the end.
“My first goal was my favourite tonight where I looped it over the goalkeeper, but as a striker I’ll take whatever goals I can get!”
Ravening added, “It’s been a brilliant season so far, we’ve all done well and all the girls have pushed me to want to get into the areas to score.
“Like Buff [Greenhalgh], my first one was probably my favourite tonight. I cut in and put it into the top corner with my left foot, but I’m just buzzing with them all.
“I’m happy to keep scoring, and to be in the right places. We wanted to go back-to-back with County Cups, and go home as winners again, and that’s exactly what we’ve done.”
With the LFA Women’s Senior Cup now in their possession, Jay Bradford’s side now turn their attention back to the FA Women’s National League North.
They sit 2nd at present with three games of the campaign remaining, four points behind leaders Nottingham Forest with a game in hand. Only the league winners are in with a chance of promotion.
This weekend, Burnley travel to The Hawthorns where West Bromwich Albion await, one of only four teams to have taken points off them so far this term.
With their sights firmly set on trying to take maximum points from the remaining games, Greenhalgh added, “We’ve worked much harder this year, it’s the hardest I’ve ever worked at a club anyway!
“Everything’s paying off though, and I’m enjoying it. We want to get as many points on the board as we possibly can, and we just want this to be the best season that Burnley have ever had.”

Ravening re-emphasised, “Buff’s spot on in what she’s just said. As a squad, we want to keep playing football, importantly we want to keep enjoying what we’re doing as a team, and we’ll keep working hard.
“We can only control what happens in our games, and that’s what we’ll be looking to do.”
