PREVIEW: BURNLEY V BIRMINGHAM CITY - Image 2

Winger Johann Berg Gudmundsson was a second half substitute on Wednesday evening and scored five minutes after coming on to put the Clarets ahead.

An 80th minute goal for Birmingham saw the points shared on the evening but the Icelandic was pleased to play his part in helping the team.

Gudmundsson on the result:

“It’s a tough game, every game in this league, especially away it’s extremely tough. When we take the lead, I think we need to see the game out. It’s happened a couple of times this season but as I said this league is so tough so, it’s a point on the road so we just have to take that and move on.”

Gudmundsson on his goal:

“It felt good, it’s been a long time, it’s been a difficult road for me, a lot of injuries obviously and not a lot of time on the pitch so I’m just grateful for every minute I’m on the pitch. To try to help the team, that’s what I did today but it would have been nice if it was the three points.”

Gudmundsson on his return:

“It’s been tough but the new staff that have come in have managed me really well, so it’s just about getting as many minutes on the pitch as possible and just enjoying football.”

Gudmundsson on turning draws into three points:

“It’s just those moments, you’re always going to get those moments in the Championship, where they go and just put long balls in and make it extremely difficult. It’s a point on the road and we go back in the dressing room, and we see that a lot of big teams have lost, so we have to take the positivity as well. That we’ve not lost, it’s only one loss this season so we just have to take the positives and it’s a point. We go to the next game and hopefully, away to Sunderland we get the three points.”

Gudmundsson on Sunderland:

“We’ll let go of this game and see the mistakes we have done and obviously we have to see what we can do against Sunderland. It’s going to be another tough away game, but we go into every game extremely confident, we know if we play our best game that we are going to beat most of the teams in this league so it’s just about getting the performance right.”
