The Clarets kicked off their new club partnership agreement with a superb two-day academy tournament.
The Barnfield Festival – hosted at the Clarets’ training centre – featured under-15 and under-16s sides from Ayr United, Portadown and Llandudno – who along with Irish club Cobh Ramblers have joined Burnley in a new joint strategic partnership.
Stockport County also took part in Saturday’s competition, which was won on goal difference by the Clarets.
And Sunday’s table was topped by Llandudno’s Under-16 side, who took the silverware back to North Wales.
The event was the first practical link-up between the partner clubs – following last week’s official launch – and Ian Jones, Burnley’s Academy Head of Coaching, sees immediate benefits.
“The whole weekend went really well,” said Jones.
“It was an excellent opportunity to collaborate on a collective coaching network and share best practice ideas with the other clubs.
“We’ve already started to talk about making it an annual event.
“For the kids, they got to play 340 minutes of football on the first-team pitches in a fantastic environment.
“It was played in an excellent spirit and they will go away with great memories and experiences.
“It was really well staged by the club and the facilities staff and thanks to Kev Harris at Barnfield and everyone else involved for making it such a success.”
