Clarets head to St Mary's in FA Cup fourth round

Burnley continue their Emirates FA Cup campaign on Saturday afternoon, as Scott Parker's side travel to St Mary's Stadium to take on Premier League opposition Southampton in the fourth round.

The Clarets travel to the South coast in impressive form, having not lost since the beginning of November in all competitions, which sees Burnley on a 19 match unbeaten run.

Parker's men booked their place in round four following a 3-1 win over Reading in the previous round, whilst the Saints defeated Swansea City 3-0.

The last time the two sides met in the FA Cup was back in 2014, when Southampton edged out a 4-3 win in Hampshire.

The opposition

Southampton returned to the Premier League at the first time of asking last season, following relegation from the top-flight in 2023, which ended their 11-year spell in the top-tier.

Despite dropping to the Championship, the Saints bounced straight back up via the play-offs, after defeating Leeds United at Wembley in May, which saw an instant return for Southampton.

However, the current campaign has proven to be a tricky time for the Hampshire club, now under the guidance of Ivan Juric, following Russell Martin's dismissal in December.

Juric's side currently sit bottom of the Premier League table, having won just twice all season and losing 19 games, which sees the Saints 10 points from safety.

There are two familiar faces within the Southampton team, with former defender Charlie Taylor and ex-loanee Taylor Harwood-Bellis both representing the Red and Whites.

In the home dugout

Following a playing career with the likes of Sevilla, Crotone and Genoa, Ivan Juric retired in the summer of 2010 and began his coaching badges just 12 months later.

After brief spells as a first team coach at Inter Milan and Palermo, Juric's first role as a Head Coach came in June 2014, as the Croatian was appointed boss of Italian side Montova.

He spent just a year in charge before joining one of his former sides, Crotone, ahead of the 2015/16 season, where he guided the Serie B team to the top-flight for the first time in the club's history.

Following an impressive 12 months with Crotone, Juric earnt himself a move to Serie A side Genoa in 2016, but was dismissed just eight months after arriving.

However, he returned to Genoa as boss following Andrea Mandorlini's departure, but once again left in November 2017. Juric did return for a third spell a year later, but spent just two months before departing for a third and final time in December 2018.

His next job saw him appointed manager of Hellas Verona in the summer of 2019, where he spent just over two years in charge of the Italian club and secured back-to-back top-half finishes in Serie A.

Juric moved on to Torino in May 2021 and managed the club for three years, before having a four month break from management, ahead of being appointed Head Coach of Roma in September last year.

The Croatian coach lasted just 12 games with the Italian giants, before being announced as Southampton Head Coach just two days before Christmas.

What Scott Parker said

"First of all, it's going to be a big test for us. They came out of this league (Championship) last season and then added to an already quality squad.

"It's a big step-up for us and they're a very good side, but it's one we're looking forward to. It's also an opportunity for us to freshen things up, but we want to go there and give the best version of ourselves.

"There's a chance to give players minutes that haven't played as much as others and for the new lads to be integrated into the side. It will be useful for them to get a feel for it and what we expect.

"There's nothing better than going on a cup run and like I've said, its a big fixture for us and it gives opportunities to others to show what they can do and hopefully we can progress into the next round."
