Centre-back talks first defeat of the season

Maxime Estève said Saturday's 1-0 loss to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light was a difficult result to take.

The Clarets arrived at the game on the back of two wins from the opening two games however a goal from Romaine Mundle in the 26th minute made the difference on the day and saw the Lancashire side's first defeat of the season.

Speaking after the game the 22-year-old said: “I’m very disappointed, for the team, for the fans. It’s a difficult one.

“It wasn’t a good game; it was a tough game for us because we didn’t have any real opportunity to score, and we conceded. It’s not a good game for everyone, it’s not a good result so we are disappointed.”

Having gone ahead the home side continued to put pressure on the visitors and had chances throughout the game to increase the lead. Arriving on the back of a 4-1 and 5-0 win in which the Clarets had been prolific in front of goal, what did Estève think changed for the Clarets today?

“It’s not the same as the first two games. The situation we are in is difficult for everyone I think, for the Club too. We will see maybe in one week.”

It was a changed side for Scott Parker following a busy week of departures and injuries to Josh Cullen and Luca Koleosho. With another big week coming up and with Wolves and Blackburn Rovers on the horizon how important is mindset going to be for the team?

“It’s very important to finish this week quickly because every day there is one thing, one thing, and it’s not easy for everyone. We want to win these games, it is very important next week, the derby, for the fans and the team too. We absolutely want to win this game. We want this.

“Everyone is disappointed because we want to win every game and after the great results against Cardiff and Luton, it’s not good. This game was not good for anyone and I’m sorry for the supporters.”
