Burnley FC Women are pleased to confirm the signing of Spaniard Amaya Coleman-Evans, who makes the move across East Lancashire following her departure from Blackburn Rovers Ladies earlier this summer.
Hailing from Seville, Coleman-Evans operates as a winger and started her career in Spain with Rodiles FC before joining Segunda Division Pro outfit Real Oviedo Women aged 13.
Now 18, the teenager spent four years with the ‘Carbayones’ and made 13 senior appearances having come through the youth ranks before moving to England for university & linking up with Blackburn in the Women’s Championship.
Coleman-Evans – who was born on Christmas Day - is eligible to play for England as well as Spain internationally, and made her bow in English football against Bristol City Women.
Having trained with the Claret Women for the last couple of weeks, she’s now put pen to paper and is happy to have done so. She said: “I’m delighted to officially be a Burnley player now.
“Being in the area over the last few months, I’ve learned more and more about the Club, and it’s one that is going in the right direction with the work being put into the women’s side.
“I mean that off the pitch, but on it you can see it coming together already with the win at Derby last weekend. I’ve met the girls already, they’re a great group, and I can’t wait to get started now." Coleman-Evans will be in contention for this Sunday’s first home game of the campaign against Stoke City Women at the County Ground in Leyland. Entry for fans is free with kick-off at 14:00.
The Potters’ visit will also be Jonathan Morgan’s first home game in charge of the side, and the boss is looking forward to seeing what Coleman-Evans can bring to his squad. He said: “Amaya is a really exciting prospect and someone we – as a group of staff – are really happy to have in the building with us.
“She’s still young, as with many of our new recruits over the course of this summer, but she has some terrific experience for her age having played for Real Oviedo and in the Championship over here already.
“I think our win last Sunday epitomised what this squad is going to be about – perseverance, hard work & determination – and I know Amaya will only add to that.”
