Swedish defender up for February prize

Hjalmar Ekdal got his Clarets career off to a flying start at Carrow Road on Saturday, as Burnley secured a 3-0 win against Norwich City.

After the game, the defender, who signed for the Club in the January transfer window, described his happiness at the team's performance and the result.

“It was a debut I couldn’t really wish for. It feels amazing of course, to get a win away from home, against a good team. We did a solid performance and I got to score; it feels incredible.”

On the goal, he added: “The ball went for the far post, and I really felt like I wouldn’t get the ball, but then he’s [Ian Maatsen] kicking it in and I had a good position so I just tapped it in.”

The trip also saw a clean sheet for the away team, much to the defender's delight.

“It’s always good to get a clean sheet.”

The Swedish international also spoke about his delight at finding out he would be making his first start in the Championship clash.

“I’ve been here for two weeks so it’s gone fast. It’s not easy to be here, it’s a lot of information to get into your head but as soon as you have it, it’s easy to play football. The whole coaching, staff and organisation is incredibly hardworking and so are we, the guys, with the teammates I have here. It’s easy to play football, so when I knew I was going to play it was just fun and I was excited.”

Finally, with a run of home fixtures on the horizon for the Clarets, the defender is looking forward to getting to Turf Moor and playing in front of the home crowd.

“Of course [I'm excited], you see the away support we have here - it’s a bit away from home so, they still managed to get here. It’s incredible support, so I’m looking forward to playing at home.”
