Manager Sean Dyche gave his reaction to Burnley’s home defeat to Manchester City at Turf Moor on Saturday. The Clarets boss gave his thoughts on several match topics following full-time against Pep Guardiola’s side.
Dyche on the result:
“You certainly don’t want to give early goals away, we made sure that we wanted to keep it tight early in the game. That was the game plan to see where the game could open and if we could get a feel and a foothold into it, and we didn’t.
“Five minutes in, they anticipate the play way better than us, one goes over our heads, we’re ball watching, it gets brought down and it’s a fine finish.
“Then the second goal, the prowess of some of their players, they play a quick one-two and arrive in the six-yard box, when our midfield didn’t get back and cover the spaces, and that’s what Man City can do to you.
“In the first-half they had three shots at goal I think and scored two, so that’s the difference at the level we’re playing. We’ve had enough chances this season to be in a better position, but we’ve still got ten games left and we’re still in the fight.
Dyche on second-half response:
“It’s more about taking on the games that come to you at that stage and I said to the players to don’t worry about this as we’ve had three weeks off. It’s been a tough time for some of them waiting for a game to come around, and I thought in the second-half we did, there was some decent play to affect the game but they are a top side so I’ve got no qualms about the result.
“But in the second-half we were better and a lot more productive like ourselves, and that’s important moving forward.”
Dyche on the upcoming games:
“It’s about what we do from now, that’s the key in these ten games, it’s ten efforts to get ourselves corrected and in the right place.
“We’ve got to correct it and move forward.”
