Burnley Football Club are delighted to announce the signings of midfielder Emma Doyle and defender Helen Seed.
Both bring a healthy dose of Women’s Championship experience to the Clarets squad, having made 15 and 14 appearances respectively at that level last season.
Upon signing for the Clarets, Doyle said: “I’ve been training here for a couple of weeks now and I’m really looking forward to getting going in the league.
“When I came to visit the training ground for the first time it was hard to say no, really.
“The women’s team project is something that aligns with my ambitions and it’s an exciting place to be at the moment.”
Seed spoke similarly positively, saying: “I’m very excited to be here! I was at a natural point of wanting to move somewhere else, and it’s nice to still be near my family in the northwest.
“When I spoke with Bex (Rebecca Sawiuk, Head Coach) and her staff, their vision of gaining promotion and being part of a winning team was a really big appeal.
“I knew quite a few of the players so it’s been quite a simple transition in that sense – everyone’s getting along, and the vibe had been really good.”
Doyle came through the youth system at top-flight side Everton, starting with their Regional Talent Club at the age of 12.
The central midfielder made her senior Toffees debut in a Women’s Super League match against Yeovil Town in May 2018, and in goal for Everton that day was her new Burnley teammate Kirstie Levell.
She joined Blackburn Rovers in 2020, going on to make 23 appearances during her maiden campaign and picking up the side’s most Player of the Match awards.
After 15 months on the sidelines with a serious injury, she returned to the pitch and totalled 41 league appearances in her time at Ewood Park.
Seed came through Rovers’ youth system, making her senior debut as a 17-year-old before spending seven years abroad. During that time, she played for teams in the United States, Switzerland and Cyprus.
The centre-back, who describes herself as a ‘traditional’ defender, picked up UEFA Women’s Champions League experience while at FF Lugano 1976, featuring against Manchester City in the competition’s round of 32.
After returning to England a first professional contract came in May 2022, with the 28-year-old netting her first goal with a stylish volley in the League Cup in October 2023.
Head Coach Rebecca Sawiuk is pleased with both additions, commenting: “We have a really clear recruitment plan this summer and when we met Seedy and Doyley it was clear they were good people that we wanted to bring to the Club.
“Both have real quality and align with our project here. Emma is an exciting technician who can control the game, while Seedy loves to defend first and brings important leadership qualities to our team.
“I’d like to welcome them to Burnley, and we are all looking forward to working with them both this season.”
