Burnley U21s recently heard from retired Team GB boxer turned property investor Ashley Vanzie as part of their educational workshop series in partnership with Burnley College!
Vanzie gave the players an insight into his personal journey, both in sport and diversifying into alternative career pathways.
After suffering an injury, Vanzie was forced to look elsewhere and through networking found himself in the world of property.
As part of his talk, he encouraged the players to set financial targets and goals for the next 10 years and finished with an ideas session around potential business ideas.
The Business and Finance session follows on from previous classes on eSports, personal skills, sport, engineering, and construction. An important part of the U21s’ schedule, the workshop series has been specifically designed to aid their personal development.
Centre-back Benn Ward took part in all of the sessions and has found the series to be a positive experience.
He said: “Football’s a tough sport and careers aren’t that long, so the Club put this series of workshops on to help us look at other things that we might be interested in doing.
“In this latest one we got taught a lot about investing money and making sure you don’t waste it, as money can go quickly and there are no guarantees in football.
“It was definitely beneficial, as it gave us an insight into how to set up our money which can help us in the future when, hopefully, we go on to have good careers.
“The lads like doing the sessions, too, because they’re positive and helpful.”
