Having been a key part of last season’s promotion-winning squad, Charley Docherty has agreed a new one-year contract to stay with Burnley Women.

The Club possess the option to extend that agreement with the full-back, who featured in all but four of the team’s 33 outings in all competitions, by a further 12 months.

“We achieved a lot last season and I’m excited to be a part of that team that’s going to keep pushing forward,” she explained.

“It (Burnley) feels like home and every season’s been different. In my first season we were hybrid and last season we went full-time and won promotion.

“I’ve played at this level before and when I came to Burnley, I came with the thought that we’d get up there.

“I’m excited to see the girls again and I hope to carry on being as consistent as I can be.”

Docherty joined Sheffield United at the age of 13 and progressed through their development system to sign her first professional contract in June 2021.

During three full seasons with the Blades, she improved her game at Barclays Women’s Super League 2 level.

The Yorkshirewoman joined Burnley ahead of the 2024/25 season, marking her debut with a goal in an opening day thumping of Hull City in August 2024.

Docherty totalled 27 appearances and three goals that season, form that she carried into the team’s historic 2025/26 campaign.

Regularly featuring at right wing-back or right centre back in a defensive five, Docherty provided five goals and 10 assists as well as being part of the league’s best defence statistically.

With that title winning medal firmly in her trophy cabinet, attention now turns to the challenge of competing at BWSL2 level once more.
