Burnley Football Club are pleased to announce the singing of Charlie Wellings, who joins our Women’s team squad on a one-year contract.

The Clarets have the option to extend the deal for the striker, formerly of Nottingham Forest, by a further 12 months.

“I’m very excited to be here," she said.

“Having been in talks for quite a while as well, I’m happy to get it over the line and I’m looking forward to getting started.

“The ambition of the club shows through – we’re in and around the same facilities as the men’s team every day, which are unbelievable.

“I’ve had a few battles against Burnley over the years, and it’s always been a good game. I’m happy to be on this side of things now.

“I’m excited to get back on the grass and play football. Pre-season’s always tough, but hopefully I can kick on as much as I can.”

Wellings came through the Academy system at Birmingham City and signed her first professional contract there in 2015.

Notably, she scored the Blues’ first ever goal at Wembley Stadium in the 2017 Women’s FA Cup final.

Then came two years at another Women’s Super League outfit in Bristol City, and after a goal-filled year at Celtic, she returned to England to sign for Reading in 2022.

Burnley fans may remember Wellings from her two years at Nottingham Forest, in which she played a key role in their promotion to BWSL2 in the 2024/25 season.

The 28-year-old played in both league matches against Burnley that campaign and scored an extra- time winner against us in the third round of the FA Cup at the City Ground.

During the 2025/26 campaign she made 14 BWSL2 appearances and now takes the next step of her career, in which she will be re-united with former Forest team-mate Millie Chandarana.
