Braidin Derbyshire has signed his first professional contract with Burnley Football Club, a one-year deal that includes a club extension option.
The 18-year-old subsequently moves into the U21s squad ahead of the 2026/27 season, where he will continue his development under Andy Farrell and Charlie Adam.
After putting pen to paper, he said: “If you told 15-year-old me that I’d be signing a professional contract just a few years after starting in my first Academy, I wouldn’t have believed you to be honest!
“My scholarship was challenging both physically and mentally, but I found my feet eventually and got where I wanted to be.
“Once I got on the scoresheet it became a bit more familiar and I became more confident, going up with the older lads too.
“Hopefully I can do the same this year and hit the ground running.”
Having joined the Clarets at U16 level, Derbyshire penned two-year scholarship terms ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
The teenager made his U21s debut in a Premier League Cup victory at Cardiff City in September 2025 and joined non-league outfit 1874 Northwich on loan three months later.
The season just gone saw him net six times for Burnley U18s, including the last of the team’s five in an FA Youth Cup rout at Norwich City.
Academy Manager Chris Casper added: “This contract is testament to Braidin’s hard work and application during his scholarship years.
“I look forward to seeing how he adapts to playing U21s football, in what is a really competitive league.”
