Josh Cullen, while speaking positively about the short break over the World Cup, is happy to be back with the squad as the Clarets look ahead to this weekend's visit to the capital.
The Irish midfielder, who joined his Republic of Ireland teammates for some international friendlies in November, was awarded FAI Men's Senior Player of the Year for his impact on Stephen Kenny's side.
The 26-year-old sat down with the media on Friday afternoon to talk about the break, getting back together with the squad and the Clarets form heading into the festive fixtures.
Cullen on representing his country:
“It was good, obviously any time you get to represent your country is a huge honour. To get to the knockouts with my country was brilliant. Then a little rest after that, but we’re back to work now and fully focussed for Sunday.”

Cullen on utilising the past few weeks:
“We’ve had a couple of friendlies in that time, so we’ve still been in that routine I suppose of preparing for games and playing games, even though they’ve not been competitive. The preparations have been kind of like a mini pre-season and we feel like we’re in a good place for Sunday.
"As a player, I think you have a little break and then after a few days you get that feeling that you want to get back to it, so it's good to be back in the past couple of weeks training. Everyone's really looking forward to Sunday and are ready to go."
Cullen on the start of the season:
“It can’t really get much better can it, sitting on the top of the pile after the first half of the season. A new manager coming in, a lot of new faces, a lot of new players getting together so I think we can be pleased with the start of the season, but I think there’s a lot more to come from us as well.”

Cullen on what’s to come from the team:
“I still think there’s improvement for us, although we’re in a good position in the league at the minute. I don’t think by any means we’re as good as what we can get to. The manager demands it, and we demand it as players. We’re working as hard as we can in training everyday to improve as a team, and I think there’s definitely still room for that.
"There's always another level, it's exciting. We've got a lot of talented players, that have got a lot of personal development still to go, so that's only going to bode well for the team. There's good times ahead, we can't get carried away and expect that that's just going to happen, we know we've got to work hard. We're confident that we can finish the season strongly."
Cullen on QPR’s change of manager:
“You never quite know how a team is going to play when a manager comes in, he could change the formation, or the style slightly, but it’s still the same players. That’s one thing that’s going to stay the same. We’re diligent in our preparation and we’ve looked at different formations they’ve been playing. I’m sure we’ll be ready for whatever test they pose and how they set up.”
