Josh Cullen hailed his “brilliant” team-mates as Burnley earned an opening night victory at Huddersfield Town on Friday.
Ian Maatsen’s strike in the 18th minute was enough to secure Vincent Kompany his first competitive win as Clarets’ boss in the Sky Bet Championship.
And Man of the Match Cullen, who made his debut for the Clarets, spoke to the media after full-time at the John Smith’s Stadium to reflect on the result.
Cullen on the performance:
“I’m really pleased naturally, the lads were brilliant, there’s a lot of new faces and it was the first game under the new manager, so we’re really pleased with the start.
But it is just the start, we’ve got to get back to the training ground and work hard.”
Cullen on the group spirit:
“The players that we have recruited, technically and tactically, we are building, and the manager wants that, we’ve bought into the ideas of the team ethic straight away as a group, so we’ve enjoyed it, but it’s just the start.
“It’s always easier when you play with top players and Corky has played at the highest level, all the lads were great and special mention to Dara on his debut.
“It’s the first game of the season and we have to build on it, we can’t get carried away after one game, it’s a long hard season and we have to continue to prepare for next week.”
Cullen on the fans:
“It was unbelievable support and it felt like a home game with the noise they were making, and hopefully we sent them home happy and they need to back us all season as they will be really important.
“We’re really looking forward to next week, hopefully we can go and put in another performance for the fans.”
