Left-back Ian Maatsen admitted it was the 'perfect' night in Huddersfield, as the 20-year-old's first-half strike proved to be the difference on the opening evening of the 2022/23 season.
The Chelsea loanee fired home from just inside the area, after a wonderful build-up, which gave the Clarets their first three points of the season and a clean sheet to go with it, on his debut.
Post-match, Maatsen discussed his goal, the performance, the away support and focusing on next weekend now.
Maatsen on the result:
"I'm so delighted for myself and for the team, my first goal for Burnley in my first game, it's a great start to the season.
"I can't get much better than that, so I'm very happy and it's a perfect start."
Maatsen on his goal:
"I played the ball to Barnesy, then it got stuck and i just thought one thing, shoot!
"Luckily it went in the bottom corner, then then enjoyment to celebrate with my teammates, i was really happy."
Maatsen on his new teammates:
"We work hard as a team, we have new players, new faces, but you saw how much energy we put in the game, we work very hard for each other.
"You see with the goal, everyone came together and are very happy, so it can't be much better than this."
Maatsen on the performance:
"We played well, they couldn't live with us, especially in the first-half.
"We stopped playing through the lines and was patient with it and it paid off.
"Three points away to Huddersfield and a clean sheet, onto the next one now."
Maatsen on not getting carried away:
"There's a lot of improvement still to be made, we just have to keep working hard.
"But if we keep the same principle, doing the same things and see where it takes us.
Maatsen on the fans:
"They are great supporters, they sang throughout the whole 90 minutes.
I want to thank them for tonight, I'm looking forward to seeing more next week at Turf Moor."
