Jack Cork expressed his gratitude to the Burnley fans after making his 267th and final appearance in Claret on Sunday afternoon.
It was announced earlier this week that the midfielder would be leaving the Club at the end of the campaign, his seventh as a permanent member of the squad.
Cork came on for the final five minutes plus stoppage time of the defeat to Nottingham Forest, replacing Josh Cullen in the heart of the midfield.
“I didn’t think I’d get emotional, but when there are so many people wanting to say thank you it’s a bit overwhelming,” said Cork.
“You don’t know what it’s going to be like, but it was nice to have my family there and there were other people crying.
“I’ve had a great time here, creating so many memories and making so many friends. It’s been a great journey with this football club.”
Cork received a standing ovation from all corners of Turf Moor when introduced by manager Vincent Kompany, with the Clarets faithful keen to show their appreciation for the 34-year-old’s service.
“The fans’ response has meant loads, to Johan (Berg Gudmundsson) as well as myself,” Cork continued.
“The Club’s a massive part of my family’s lives and it’s been such a friendly place since I’ve been here.
“I don’t think my kids were that interested in walking round with me, as they were more interested in getting the balls and smashing them in the goal! It’s nice for them to come on and we’ve got loads of memories at Turf Moor together over the years.
“I’ve tried to work as hard as I can on the pitch, never leaving anything off it. I hope the fans have seen that and everybody at the Club has seen that day to day at the training ground too.”
