MATCH PREVIEW: WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS V BURNLEY - Image 2
The opposition
Following promotion in 2018 to the Premier League, Wolves haven't looked back over their shoulder. Back-to-back 7th place finishes were followed up by finishes no lower than 14th over the next four seasons in the top-flight.
Over those years in the Premier League, the Wanderers have enjoyed impressive wins over the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
Since returning to the top-flight, Wolves have had four managers in Nuno Espirito Santo, Bruno Lage, Julen Lopetegui and now current boss Gary O'Neil, who joined last summer.
It's been a busy summer transfer window at Molineux, with the departures of Pedro Neto to Chelsea and Max Kilman to West Ham, alongside Hugo Bueno who joined Feyenoord on loan and Ki-Jana Hoever who signed for Auxerre.
Wolves have replaced those leaving with the likes of Pedro Lima from Sport Recife, Rodrigo Gomes arriving from SC Braga, striker Jorgen Strand Larsen signing on loan from Celta Vigo and making the permanent signing of Tommy Doyle following his loan spell last season from Manchester City.
The Old Gold have had a tricky start to to the 2024/25 Premier League campaign, having suffered a 2-0 defeat to Arsenal on the opening weekend, Wolves then lost 6-2 at home to Chelsea on Sunday.

In the dugout
After an impressive playing career with the likes of Portsmouth, Middlesbrough, West Ham and Norwich City, O'Neil started his coaching career in August 2020 as the Assistant Manager of Liverpool's U23s.
Six months later, he joined AFC Bournemouth as a First Team Coach, working under Cherries boss Jonathan Woodgate for the remainder of the 2020/21 season.
Following Woodgate's departure at the end of that season, O'Neil stayed on as a coach and worked under Scott Parker as part of the coaching staff that saw the Cherries promoted in the 2021/22 campaign.
Parker's departure in August 2022 then saw O'Neil take on the caretaker manager role for Bournemouth, before being appointed permanent Head Coach in November after picking up 13 points from a possible 33.
Despite O'Neil guiding the club to Premier League safety, after a winning streak of five wins from seven, June 2023 saw the Cherries dismiss him from his role and appoint current boss Andoni Iraola.
The former midfielder wasn't out of action for long though, joining Wolves last summer as Head Coach and doing so he became only the second English coach to beat a Pep Guardiola Manchester City side, following a 2-1 win at Molineux early on in the season.
Wolves eventually secured a 14th place finish under O'Neil in his first year at Molineux and beat the likes of Chelsea twice and Tottenham Hotspur across the course of the campaign.

What Scott Parker said
“It definitely gives us an opportunity to bounce back, the games come thick and fast.
"Certainly where we are at the moment in terms of the dynamics of the squad, it will stretch us, but we’re looking forward to this game, we're coming up against a good opposition, and it's an opportunity to see more players in that sense.
“It’s a Premier League outfit, a good test. We’ll go over what went wrong on Saturday, get it out of our system, reboot and go again on Wednesday night."
