Josh Brownhill was happy that his late 94th minute winner against Portsmouth on Saturday managed to secure another three points for the Clarets in the Sky Bet Championship.
Reflecting on the game, the midfielder said that despite time ticking on, he knew if the team stuck to their task that they would get chances and grind out a win.
“It’s an incredible feeling, not only to score but to get the result that we deserved throughout the game, it’s a great feeling.”
And does he feel that netting the winner in stoppage time always adds that little bit more drama?
“Yes, it does! It makes it a little bit of a better feeling, I’d rather it earlier on than that but that’s why we keep fighting until the end. I want to give credit to everybody because all the players and all the people that came on, the staff, believed in us right until the end. And that’s the way we play, we keep the ball very well and sometimes it can take that long. You can hear obviously the noise when we’re keeping the ball and passing it around, trying to wait for the right time. We trust in what we do, that’s what we do on the training pitch so for everybody that stuck with us right until the end, they deserved that.”

A Callum Lang goal saw Portsmouth take a lead into the break, how would the 28-year-old reflect on the first half performance and the reaction shown?
“I still don’t think we were very bad. They scored their goal but it’s football we did it a lot in the Championship two years ago, that’s football it happens. They can go down the other end and score, but we believe in the quality that we’ve got, that we’ll create chances and ultimately, we’ve got to take them.
“It’s frustrating to go in 1-0 down at half-time, we probably didn’t deserve to go 1-0 down but that’s just the way football is, and we knew that we had 45 minutes to come out, show what we can do and grab the three points.”
Wins can come in many different forms, how important does he think a comeback win is for the team, in terms of showing that never give up mentality?

“It’s huge and that’s why you’ve got to stick together, everybody, not just us the fans as well. You could feel that frustration towards the end and that does nothing for us, it doesn’t help us at all, we need everybody to stick with us. We were creating chances, we were going forward, we were biding our time to go forward. Because we can just kick it long and go forward and they can head it, they can head it out for a throw in, which frustrated me more. We need to wait for the right times to go through, I think we did that. It was late on but that’s football.”
The summer transfer window brought about plenty of change for the side and whilst pleased with the afternoon's victory, Brownhill feels that the squad still need time to gel to improve.
“It’s not like we had this team from the second week in pre-season, we got it the second week into the season so it’s kind of like – not a pre-season – but it’s getting to know everybody still. What people are good at, where they want the ball, how they play and that’s going to come over time. So, as much as we can keep getting results, over time we can gel more together, understand each other and hopefully we can keep putting in very good performances and go where we want to go.”
Lastly, having required stitches to his eyebrow following a collision of heads at Elland Road last weekend, how's the eyebrow holding up?
“There were a few headers I went up for today and I was a bit worried! Thankfully, it’s all right though.”
