Josh Brownhill netted his 12th goal of the season in Saturday's entertaining four nil win on home turf, a game which he described afterwards as 'really fun to play in'.

The captain, who recently celebrated reaching 200 appearances for the Clarets, was also delighted for teammate Lyle Foster who found himself on the scoresheet, but said whilst there can be high spirits today, he has his eyes set on the encounter with West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday night.

“It was fantastic, even from the warm up the sun was out, the fans were in good voice, the lad’s energy was there, and it was just a really fun game to play in that’s for sure.”

A big moment in the game came in the 19th minute when Kal Naismith picked up a second yellow for a foul on Brownhill. However, the midfielder admitted he hadn't realised the Luton man had been sent off.

“To be honest I went in at half-time and someone said something about be careful about getting sent off in case they want to level it up or something because I didn’t realise, they got a man sent off. I just thought we were playing really well and controlling the game. I went inside and someone said, ‘Yeah he’s been sent off’ and I was thinking what, because I was down, it was a tackle on me, I just thought he got a yellow card, I didn’t think. But yeah, it makes a lot of sense!”

Brownhill found the back of the net in the 53rd minute, his 12th goal of the season. How happy is he with those numbers?

“I’m absolutely delighted. It’s something I’ve wanted to do, to take charge with goals and for me this year I’ve just got myself into the box and I feel like if there’s a chance I’ll take it. I was quite gutted I didn’t score the second one that I put wide. But I’ll just keep chipping away with goals and see how many I can end up with!”

Lyle Foster scored the second goal, his first since the East Lancashire Derby and Brownhill was thrilled for his teammate.

“Absolutely delighted. For Lyle it’s something he’s been working hard for, he’s had some big chances and normally he does bury them, we see it in training, and he’s not done it in games. But I said to him before it’s his time today to go and score and when he did, I think everybody was so happy for him because we know how much it means to him. Not just his chances but he works so hard, and he gets in the right positions. He’s a really good striker and hopefully now he can kick on and score more."

And does he believe it will help his confidence?

“Yes, and that’s what we keep telling him, he’s getting in the right places so if he keeps getting in those places, he’s going to get more and more chances and he’s going to score at least one of them. So, today I’m really delighted.”

Brownhill was presented with a special shirt before the game for reaching a landmark 200 appearances for the Clarets, alongside Ashley Barnes who has made 300 appearances. With both players going on to score in the game did he feel it was almost written in the stars?

“A special day for both of us. I’m so, so proud to play 200 games for Burnley. Making one was special enough and I never would have thought that I’d play 200 games. I’m very proud of that. And for Barnsey also, 300 games is massive. You could tell out there today that everybody was buzzing for him to score, and you had that feeling that he was going to score today. Everybody was delighted for him, the fans as well. I’m just really happy for Barnsey too.”

The next visitors at Turf Moor are West Brom on Tuesday evening and despite enjoying today's victory, Brownhill says the squad's full focus from tomorrow will be on what he says will be a tough encounter.

“We know it’s going to be a completely different game from today. Obviously, we’ve got to enjoy today but tomorrow we’re back in and focus is on to Tuesday. It’s a really different type of game, they’re a really good team, we’ve seen that at their place and over the years when we’ve played them. It’s definitely not going to be easy but for us we’re in good form, full of confidence and we’re hopefully going to put out another show like today.”

And hopefully the sun is out again?

“I know, I wish it was! I wish the game was earlier and it was sunny!”
