Clarets welcome Reds to Lancashire

All eyes will be on the Lancashire FA County Ground on Sunday, with Burnley Women hosting Nottingham Forest in the Northern Premier Division of the Women’s National League.

Both teams harbour ambitions of promotion to the Championship and will be fighting for three valuable points come kick-off at 2pm.

It’s a fourth straight home game for the Clarets, who are aiming to bounce back from defeat to Rugby Borough last time out.

Amelia Hazard and Rhema Lord-Mears produced fine strikes to earn a 2-0 lead at half-time, but the visitors fought back after the break and eventually won it in second-half stoppage time.

Rebecca Sawiuk’s side have managed 96 goals in 24 matches across all competitions this season and will hope to increase that number against the Reds.

Heading into the match Burnley sit 4th in the 12-team table with 37 points from 16 matches, while opponents Forest are top of the tree with five points more from the same number of games.

The Reds, who are the only unbeaten side in the league with 13 wins and three draws, were without a game last weekend because of the postponement of their trip to Stourbridge.

Their last outing was a hard-fought draw with 2nd placed Wolverhampton Wanderers in which Mel Johnson opened the scoring, but Charlotte Greengrass earned Wolves a point.

We have played Carly Davies’ team twice already this season – once in the FAWNL and the other in the third round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.

The reverse league fixture at the City Ground saw Reanna Blades steal the headlines with 10 minutes to play back in September.

Burnley’s number 37 latched onto Brenna McPartlan’s through ball to finish coolly past Emily Batty in the Forest goal and cancel out Johnson’s similar finish in the first half.

There are some familiar relationships across the teams, with Burnley’s McPartlan, Danielle Maxwell and Louise McDaniel spending time away with Forest’s Nat Johnson, Megan Bell and Caragh Hamilton on Northern Ireland duty just last month.

Supporters are encouraged to get behind the team in person on the day, and Burnley men’s team season ticket holders can gain entry for free by showing their season ticket at the turnstiles.

Other adults are £5, while concessions are £2.

The Lancashire FA County Ground in Leyland’s post code is PR25 2LF, and free parking is available on site on a first come first served basis.

The venue is fully accessible and supporters can choose to take a seat in the main stand or stand around the edge of the pitch, giving a unique view of the action.
