Midfielder excited to get Turf Moor chapter underway

Belgian winger Manuel Benson became Vincent Kompany’s tenth signing of the summer transfer window, making the move from Royal Antwerp.

The 25-year-old, who put pen to paper on a four-year deal with Burnley, spoke about playing outside of Belgium for the first time, working with Vincent Kompany and his excitement to play at Turf Moor.

Benson on the move:

“I’m very excited. It’s a new adventure for me and I’ve heard a lot of good things, so I really can’t wait to star.

“As soon as the Club got in contact with me, I had a good feeling. I was 100% convinced that it would be a good move for me.

“I have to make steps in my career and for me this is a good step to take. I had some good years in Belgium and for me, this was a good choice to expand a little bit [by joining Burnley].

“I’m very happy, why not come here with a coach who knows me and I know them?”

Benson on being summer signing number 10:

“There’s a lot of new signings, so I won’t be the only one trying to fit in! Everybody I’ve met up until now have been very good guys. I feel good already here, and I know that I’ll get to know everybody better.

“I don’t think it matters much here though whether you’re a new signing or you’ve been here for a ling time. Everybody’s just good with each other.”

Benson on adapting to the heavy Championship schedule:

“I think everyone who plays football just loves playing games. It’s the first time for me playing as many games [in one season], so I need to be in shape and try to play as many games as I can. I’m looking forward to it.

“Every footballer in life wants to win trophies and I want to earn everything there is to get from the Championship.

“I will do my best, and I know the team will as well, to win as many games as possible and then lift as many trophies as we can.

“I saw the game [against Huddersfield Town] and really liked the way that the team played. For me, it just makes me even more excited to be here and be a part of it. Even just watching them, I already felt part of it. I just can’t wait to start.”

Benson on Vincent Kompany:

“We had a talk that really convinced me to come here, and I know him from what he did in Belgium. I have no doubts about coming here and working with him.”

Benson on his playing style:

“It’s difficult to describe. I think I’m more of a technical player and that’s my biggest aspect, but I’m good on the ball too.

“Fans will have to buy a ticket and come to the stadium to watch me live so they can see for themselves!”

Benson on Turf Moor:

“I’ve been trying [to find time] for days to visit the stadium, I think I’ll finally get there this afternoon.

“I’m really excited to be there and to see all the fans. I’ve heard about the atmosphere and I really can’t wait to be on that pitch, showing what I can do, and seeing all the fans.”
