Ashley Barnes used all his experience in Burnley's victory over Blackburn Rovers at Turf Moor on Sunday afternoon.
The striker, who secured a brace on the day, talked post-match about how much the goals meant to him, being delighted that he could contribute the team's derby day success and the importance of such strong form heading into the World Cup break.
Barnes his goals:
“It meant an awful lot, just so I can help the team out. Obviously scoring the other night just gave me a bit more confidence going into this game. I didn’t know I was starting until today so yeah it was a nice surprise and I just had to do the basics right.”
Barnes on his first Turf Moor derby:
“It was incredible, they always are. I know how much it means to the fans and I’m glad they can go home with the bragging rights, happy.”
Barnes on Zaroury’s goal:
“It’s always nice to get the second goal, just to kill them off a little bit. It was a well worked move. I should have finished the volley but it’s one of those things, I could have had a double hat-trick today, well I should have anyway! Luckily enough I got two, so I can’t be too greedy.”
Barnes on his reception:
“It was incredible, you know what the fans have done for me over the ten years, in January it will be now, that I’ve been here, is incredible. All I can do is give it my best when I’m on the pitch and luckily enough I’ve come up with the goals today to help them.”
Barnes on heading into the break top of the table:
“It’s amazing, going into a little break now. Just being on top of the league but we’ve got to regroup when we come back and make sure that we kick on.”
