Eight players from the Clarets academy are currently out on loan across the Football League & non-league pyramid.
With two of those playing for the Clarets own U21s at Peterborough United as Lewis Richardson reached the knockout stages of the Papa John’s Trophy with Grimsby Town, here’s a round-up of how all eight have fared over the last seven days.
Bobby Thomas (Bristol Rovers)
Thomas, who joined Burnley in 2017, didn’t have any midweek match action with Joey Barton’s Bristol Rovers able to enjoy a break in their hectic EFL schedule.
The defender and his teammates returned on Saturday afternoon at home to Fleetwood Town, drawing 2-2 in a Sky Bet League One fixture which Rovers had led right up until the 97th minute.

This Week’s Games: SAT – Peterborough United (H)
Finn Armstrong (FC United of Manchester)
Full back Armstrong’s youth loan at FC United is set to run until 31st December, but as per the terms of the deal, he is also permitted to feature for the Clarets during that time.
With the Reds having no midweek game, the defender filled in at centre back for the U21s in their defeat at Peterborough, before returning to his loan club for their match at home to Warrington Rylands on Saturday.
Armstrong – who has been in the Clarets academy since he was 12 – played his part in a 2-2 draw. Goalless at half time, three of the four goals in the game came in four minutes at the end of the second half.

This coming week, he could be in contention for a ‘European debut’ as FC welcome Belgian outfit KSV Beveren to Broadhurst Park in the Fenix trophy. The friendly tournament has nine teams in it, all from different countries.

Jacson Coppack (Padiham)
Versatile midfielder Coppack is on a work experience loan deal with Padiham which runs until 21st November.
The Storks didn’t have a midweek game, and 18-year-old Coppack – who has been at Burnley since 2020 – sat out their 2-0 home win over Ashton Athletic at the weekend.
This Week’s Games: TUE – Charnock Richard (A – Lancashire Challenge Trophy) & SAT - West Didsbury & Chorlton (A)
Joe McGlynn (Hyde United)
Scottish youth international McGlynn, who has been a Claret since the age of 12, experienced a week of ups and downs with loan Club Hyde in the Northern Premier League’s Premier Division.

The striker played 84 minutes on Tuesday as the Tigers claimed a 1-0 win up at South Shields, though suffered defeat by the same scoreline on Saturday at home to Matlock Town when he played for 74 minutes.
Despite that loss, Hyde – where McGlynn’s youth loan runs until 23rd November – remain top of the table at the time of writing.
This Week’s Games: TUE – Runcorn Town (A – Cheshire Cup)
Lewis Richardson (Grimsby Town)
Richardson also experienced a week of highs and lows in the black & white of Grimsby, where he is on a season-long loan.
With Burnley from the age of nine, Richardson played the full game against Manchester City’s U21s in the last Papa John’s Trophy group stage game on Tuesday.
After a 1-1 draw in 90 minutes, the pair went toe-to-toe in a penalty shootout for an additional point – as per the competition rules – which would take the winner through to the knockout stages and eliminate the loser.

Keeping their cool, the Mariners ran out 4-2 victors on spot kicks and set up a Last 32 tie against Lukas Jensen’s Accrington Stanley.
But on Saturday, Richardson came off the bench for the last half-hour as Paul Hurst’s side lost out 3-1 at home to Doncaster Rovers in Sky Bet League Two action.
This Week’s Games:  SAT – Stevenage (H)
Lukas Jensen (Accrington Stanley)
Goalkeeper Jensen is also out on a season-long loan in the EFL across Lancashire with Stanley.
This week, he was an unused substitute in their narrow 1-0 home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday at the Wham Stadium.
The Reds are 20th in the Sky Bet League One table at the time of writing.
This Week’s Games: SAT – Cambridge United (A)
Sam Waller (Lancaster City)
After a successful initial spell at the Giant Axe, goalkeeper Waller last week extended his youth loan until 3rd January 2023.

The Dolly Blues’ Player of the Month for October has since continued his success with two wins against Marske United & Whitby Town respectively.
Both games came away from home with Lancaster running out 3-2 victors at Marske and then netting a last-minute winner at Whitby on Saturday to claim three points courtesy of a 2-1 success on the road.
Waller has been a Claret since the age of 12.
This Week’s Games: SAT – Chester (A – Isuzu FA Trophy)
Will Hugill (Leek Town)
Versatile midfielder Hugill followed the same pattern as Waller in extending his youth loan following a positive first spell, and he will now remain with Leek until 4th December.

The Staffordshire outfit didn’t have a midweek game, so like Finn Armstrong, Hugill was drafted back into action for the Clarets U21s at Peterborough and played at full back.
Then, on Saturday, he played 72 minutes for Leek in their 3-2 success at home to Clitheroe.
