French duo Lorenz Assignon and Maxime Esteve are both settling into life at Burnley and have been looking ahead to this weekend’s trip to take on the Hammers.
Making up two of the Clarets' three January signings, the pair have adapted well to their first time playing in the Premier League.
“It’s very good. I’ve been welcomed by everybody at the club, all the staff, all my teammates. There’s a great vibe in the dressing room and it’s going well,” said right-back Assignon.
Esteve added: “Yes, pretty much the same for me, it’s very good here. The settling in process has gone really, really well. For my wife, it was harder for her at the beginning settling in, but me personally I’m very, very pleased to be here in England.
“There’s a great collective within the dressing room. Being here in Manchester as well, I’d really say we’re enjoying our life.”
And how challenging has Esteve found his first experience of playing in the Premier League?
“I’ve found the game here to be more physical than back home, certainly in the one against ones, the duels I’d say. But I’m getting a lot of playing time, I’m very happy with that. I think now the important thing is to kick on and get some points and some victories behind us.
“It’s great with some of my teammates also being able to speak French. We do talk a lot and I think over the course of time it’s going to help me continue learning about football here in England.”
The Clarets find themselves in a challenging position in the table, but Assignon says the players are working hard and a win would give the squad a real boost.
“Of course, it’s very important. I think some victories would have a great impact. We do have a really great team, a great set of players. There’s a lot of effort that’s been put in, a lot of investment that’s been put into the development of the team and there’s an enormous pride amongst all of us to wear the Burnley shirt. So, I think a good run of results would have a great impact on morale and give a very positive buzz around the club.”
Meanwhile with Sunday's trip to West Ham on the horizon, Esteve believes it will be a tough contest.
“Well, all the matches are tough games I think that’s a fair comment to say, and West Ham have a lot of international players in their squad. I think we’re probably in for quite a tough contest. It’s certainly going to be a test for us but we’re going to go out there in a very positive frame of mind and hopefully come away with a good result.”
