Clarets welcome Tigers in weekend clash

Burnley U21s host Hull City in a Professional Development League fixture on Saturday afternoon, with the aim of recording a fifth straight victory in all competitions.

The young Clarets come into the game on the back of a 1-0 victory over Accrington Stanley in the Lancashire FA Senior Cup earlier this week.

Sixteen-year-old Vernon Masara's powerful second-half strike won the game at Wham Stadium, booking the team's place in the final of the competition.

Andy Farrell's team's last league outing saw them beat Fleetwood Town 1-0 courtesy of a second-half own goal, which was forced by a Renaldo Torraj delivery.

Burnley are currently 6th in the PDL North table, claiming 25 points from 15 matches. With recent fixture postponements, the Clarets have played up to seven games less than other teams around them.

Saturday's opponents Hull City are three places and eight points worse off, having played a game more.

Since the start of the season the Tigers have recorded five wins, nine losses, and two draws, and Conor Sellar's side will be hoping to bounce back following a 3-0 league defeat against Fleetwood Town last time out.

Prior to that they had beaten fellow Yorkshire outfit Sheffield Wednesday and matches featuring the Tigers tend to be entertaining - four of their last seven league outings have seen six goals or more.

These two sides are yet to meet each other this season.

Supporters are welcome to attend the game at The Lancashire FA County Ground in Leyland (PR25 2LF) on Saturday afternoon. Kick-off is 12pm.

Tickets are free for Burnley season ticket holders, with other adults priced at £5 and concessions at £3. There is no need to purchase in advance, simply turn up on the day and head to the main entrance.
