Saturday afternoon saw Burnley U21s fall to a 4-2 Professional Development League defeat to Hull City at the Lancashire FA County Ground in Leyland.
The Tigers pushed ahead with three early goals before Burnley captain Will Hugill pulled one back towards the end of the first half.
The Clarets emerged stronger and dominant in possession after the break and Vernon Masara added another goal for the home side, but Hull fought back to secure all three points.
Andy Farrell's squad featured four U18s players, with Callum West and Jack Rogers in the starting eleven and Murray Campbell and Masara coming off the bench.
Hull City wasted no time setting the tone as Nathan Tinsdale swiftly weaved down the pitch and sent a long ball over Burnley 'keeper Charlie Casper just 47 seconds into the match, giving the away side an early lead.
The Tigers' momentum continued four minutes later when Raj Palit tapped in an accurate cross from Oliver Green, leaving Casper no chance.
The Clarets attempted to counter attack, with Renaldo Torraj making threatening runs down the wing and linking up effectively with Ackeme Francis-Burrell. However, their efforts were denied by the resilient Tigers defence.
Hull then struck again with 21 minutes on the clock through Bora Aydinlink, who found the back of the net with a powerful strike.
Andy Farrell made his first substitution early on, bringing on Tommy McDermott to replace Francis-Burrell with the hope of changing the course of the game.
Moments later Hugill showcased his determination as he weaved his way down the pitch, leaving Rocco Coyle behind. After entering the area he calmly chipped the ball over Hull 'keeper Callum Yan to reduce the arrears.
Burnley found themselves two goals behind at the break, however, they returned to the pitch stronger and were able to create more goal scoring opportunities.
Hugill had the first proper chance as he entered the area and smacked the ball towards goal, but it skimmed over the cross bar.
Substitute Masara wasted no time making an impact as he used his impressive speed to cut through the Hull defence and hammer home for the second game running, having scored the winner at Accrington Stanley earlier in the week.
As the game intensified Logan Pye received two yellow cards in fairly quick succession, leaving the Clarets to play with 10 men for the last 11 minutes plus stoppage time.
In the closing stages of time added on Hull added a fourth to secure all three points, with striker Tyrell Sellars-Fleming slotting past Casper.
The result ends the young Clarets' four-game unbeaten run in all competitions, and the team stay 6th in the PDL North table with 25 points from 16 matches.
